BBE 383 Bass Preamp

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD.

I no longer use this nice and truly underrated pre amp. Its in really nice shape on the front panel, the rack holes have some small rash to them but everything else is still clearly painted/labeled, etc. The top and bottom have your typical scratches from people sliding it in and out of a rack case, but who cares- its racked! Every feature is functional the last time I used it which was about a month ago. This is the predecessor to the BBE BMAX bass pre which is $300, new. Made in the USA.
Has a lot of features but mainly : on board compressor with threshold control, ( can be switched in or out ), Punch button which will take a passive bass and make it almost active in nature, BBE " Process " option with Lo Contour control, Crossover option for bi amping with Balance and Frequency control, Gain and Master volume. XLR out with Ground lift, 1/4" unbalanced output, Effect loop- send/return, etc. I have used this as a straight pre for one cab and I've used it with a two channel power amp to bi amp a 410 and 115 Ampeg cab and it worked really well, especially with the variable crossover and balance. If you crank the Gain, you will get solid state distortion out of it if that's your thing. The compressor works well- can be very subtle or ridiculously even and tight. The BBE effect will be subjective to your tastes, I found it can help you cut through the mix a little better if your particular bass doesn't seem to on its own.

Here is the BBE manual in case you'd like to read up further.

I'm also selling a BBE 482 that I'll make a deal on if someone wants both.

SOLD

Local deals = cheaper.

How does this compare to the BMax in sound? Can I get the super deep bass? Any sound clips?

I cant compare it to the Bmax because I never owned one but the controls are almost identical between the BMax and the 383. You can get deep bass with the punch button. There was a thread on here where someone from BBE who helped designed the 383 talked about the differences but I can't find it. They were mainly in the EQ voicing if I recall.

No sound clips, any recording I have is done with pre amps that are tube driven.

I've used one of these on numerous gigs and tons of practices -- way underrated little preamp. One of these and one of those new Crown Drivecore 1000's and you've got a 350 dollar rig that'll pound like crazy. Just remember the bridge cable.

Great preamp that I have used on and off for years. I believe the newer Bmax preamps have the Fender tone stack, while the 383 does not. Good luck !

OMG I had one of these chained to a Crest Audio 900 watt stereo amp to an EDEN 2 x 12 cab

these preamps are freaking amazing for a solid state unit
PLUS it has the BBE processing
I loved the punch circuit for slap and has a great EQ section
Sweet price too!@

Alright people. You've read the reviews and comments left on this thing so you know I'm not blowing smoke up your butts about its value and performance. Like to sell it before the weekends over so I can ship it asap.

BBE 383

Hey man, not sure if this thing is still available, but I'm interested. If you would take $150 including shipping to Canada (London, On - N5Y 3A5), I would take it off your hands (pay through paypal)

Was wondering if you ever had any hum problem and if so, how did you fix it? I have a hum problem with my BBE 383. Any tips?
