DR. BASS BL212 Neo Cab

Sign in to disble this ad
CAB IS SOLD!

I've had this beauty for about a year now and just haven't used it much. Was planning to buy a second and run both off of a QSC power amp but went to a Markbass SD800 and 2-8 ohm cabs instead. Here's the skinny -

212 neo cab, 4 ohm, 52 lbs, 24.5x21x15, tight/punchy/loud, smooth tweeter (I upgraded the original crossover for less upper end harshness). NO BUILD TIME WAIT and this baby has only been used enough times to be broken in. NOTE: Jack says "8 ohm" because I had a change of heart right after I bought it and had Marc swap the drivers for a 4 ohm box. I can never make up my mind

Asking $375 shipped - CON-US only. Sale only. Not looking for trades. Thanks for looking.

Funny you should ask that. I now own 2 of the GK212 cabs. Not so much because I like them better but because I could GET them without waiting 6 months

My analysis would be this - The DrB cab is a bit more focused but a tad darker. The GK is to my ear overall fuller and brighter. They're both pretty punchy. The GK SEEMS louder to me AND it's only 8 ohms as compared to the DrB at 4 ohms. I think this has something to do with the more pronounced upper mids. That may not appeal to some but it works for me. The GK has just a tad of harshness in the top end by comparsion but it's easily EQ'd out. If I want a brighter sound from the DrB, I have to boost the top end at the amp or bass. Keep in mind though that I modded the crossover. The original crossover rendered more upper end harshness at the crossover point. That was tamed with the new crossover on the BL212.

Non sonic differences - I like the DrB LineX coating much better than the GK tolex and the GK grills don't thrill me. Not sure what the wait is currently for DrB 212s but I had the GKs in a matter of days (from theperfectbass.com) and the price was about the same (GK a tad more expensive). Oh, and the GK comes with casters and a speakon cable. Not so with the DB. Hope that helps...

Hey man!

1. IS the cab still available?

2. Tell me more about the crossover mod. Did you or Marc do it. What exactly did you do? Raise the freq? Change the circuit? Just some details.

3. Condition appears good in the pics

look forward to your reply

1. Yes. The cab is still available but I do have 2 other interested parties that will have first crack. Still waiting on replies and will update in a day or 2.

2. I did the Xover mod - removed the single cap hi pass filter and put in a 2nd order butterworth network with a cap and inductor for both the tweeter and woofers. Smooths out the crossover point (which I did raise a tad) by making the slope a little steeper. It's all installed on a circuit board that I attached to the jack plate on the inside (you can see 4 small screws in the picture that are holding it in place). All high quality components. Probably overkill but it DID make a difference.

I would be interested, but it sounds like you got it sold already. I'll keep watching, or, eMail and let me know.

Had a buyer that just had to back out at the last minute over financial issues. Still available. Holding at this price for now. Interested?
