Epifani UL112: Cheap with issues!

Sign in to disble this ad
This started last summer when I bought a used Epi S1 UL112. Soon after I purchased it, the woofer blew. So I bought a new S2 Eminence driver from Epifani. Fine. But then the tweeter blew. (Or so I thought.) I matched part numbers on the Speaker City website and bought a new tweeter. But after installation of the new tweeter, it doesn't work! I have no idea what could be wrong as I'm technically challenged. The woofer though, sounds amazing!

To summarize, this is an Epifani S1 UL112 box with a brand new Epifani S2 driver and new tweeter (identical to the old one). The cab is now rated at 300 watts @ 8 ohms. The woofer functions flawlessly, but the tweeter does not work. Think of it as an extesion cab!

Not sure how to price this one. So how about $350 shipped/insured. (I figure $425 if the tweeter worked.) Or look, shoot me an offer. If you're handy then this is a great deal.

I'm curious if the original tweeter was fine, but the crossover is fried.

Is that what it is? The crossover? Then the original tweeter is probably fine.

I should reiterate that the woofer sounds great. And to some folk, this cab would be great as-is. Shoot, I only put the tweeter up to 9 or 10 o'clock.

I don't know for a fact. It would just be my guess that if the new tweeter doesn't work, then it might be the crossover is gone and not getting signal to the new tweeter.

Don't most cabs have a small light bulb (like an automotive dome light bulb) wired in series with the tweeter to protect it? My GB 410XB does and I've seen it on others. The bulb functions like a fuse and blows to protect the tweeter.

Easy/cheap to replace if you've got one.

Thanks for the suggestion, but no light bulb.
