F/S Ashdown ABM EVO 500 Original made in UK!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey folks, ***SOLD***

So I am putting up my 2001 made Ashdown EVO 500 head. This amp served for a brief time in my main gigging rig, then was relegated to backup status as I used my EVO II as my main head.

Recently, I found a mint Trace Elliot AH600SMX. So now the shuffle happens...the Trace is number one, the EVO II is backup, and this guy is up for sale.

-500 watts
-7 band EQ
-Minimum impedance 4 Ohms
-Adjustable Valve (Tube) Drive
-quiet pre/post DI
-effects loop
-mute switch
-Sub-Harmonic switch (like a built in Octavator)
-Dual fans

These Ashdowns were inheritors of the legendary Trace Elliot sound, and they do not disappoint. This is a true hybrid amp, with a nice balance between a 12AX7 tube in the pre, and solid state in power section. 500 watts and its plenty loud, much more headroom than the posted rating. (these amps are very underrated as far as power goes.) The amp weighs in at 29 lbs., very easy to lift. There are two small scuff marks on top of the head. Before I took ownership of this head, the previous owner had it checked out at British Audio Works, and it received a clean bill of health. I have had no issues with this amp, just stress free dependable service. I will miss this guy, and if the Trace was not mint, I would hang onto it in a heartbeat.

Check out the pictures below...Manufactured in England (not China) great quality..they don't make 'em like this anymore.

I will ask SOLD for my baby...not in a hurry to sell.
An amp like this is worth every penny, once you plug it in you will know why. I also have the original manual downloaded that I will make available to the buyer. Any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks! I will PM you about the Trace.

All the rage today is the microamp...so those bigger Trace amps might find no love, so be warned (close to 60 lbs.)

The Ashdown is half that weight and is an easy one handed move (nice tough thick leather handle, really strong).

As for tone, which is completely subjective, most of the micro amps I have tried always seemed to lack something.

This Ashdown is a no-compromise situation...balls to the walls power with tone and overtones to match...to me, its the tone I always hoped a bass amp could achieve. My Trace and my other Ashdown will have to suffice, but I will miss this one

I use a Mag300 at a rehearsal studio I play at...it definitely shares some characteristics with the ABM, especially in the EQ. But the ABM is just...the hammer of the gods.... (geez did I just say that?)

Ive been using Ashdown EVO 500 heads(and cabs) for over a decade.

Some of the best sounding bass amps ever made.

I've also been endorsing Ashdown amps and cabs for over a decade.

I play one of these and can testify to its great sound! Full and bootylicious. I use it on both upright and electric and it never disappoints.

Thanks...very versatile amp here! Hmm. I never played this with an upright, but I can see(hear) where this would sound good

The EVO, EVO II, and EVO III are different incarnations of the same amp over the past 12-13 years. The basic design and structure is the same, with subtle differences between them.

Do a search in the amp section....from memory the EVO went from 98-99? to 2003or 4...EVO II went from 2004-2009..then the EVO III is the present model.

My EVO has two 1/4" outputs for speakers, The EVO II has one speakon and one 1/4" output.

The EVO has two input jacks for high/low gain instruments...the EVO II has one input and a switch to go between high/low gain

The EVO is listed at 500 watts...the EVO II is listed at 575 watts.

Like I said, do a search and you can see the small differences. But when I play, the settings I have on my EVO and EVO II are nearly identical...proof enough (to me anyway) on how similar they are, especially sound-wise.

My understanding from Martin at Ashdown UK is the power section is a different design from the original. The EVO-II's are supposedly more reactive (faster) with less voltage drop-off. I have two of these (ABM500EVO & EVOII) and I cant tell the difference.

My ABM-300EVOII blows them both away for tone, but is strictly a small room amp.

These are great heads, regardless of output.

Thanks for the info...I can't really tell a difference sound wise between my EVO and EVO-II either. Love the tone these heads produce!

Thanks for the info I was having some trouble finding it. Seems like the differences are subtle. I find it interesting that the tone of the 300 would be better. That's really the model I'm after but they seem to be few and far between.

Sent you another PM.

From what I read, the 300 has great tone like the 500, but is a little underpowered for a live situation. Of course that does depend on your situation

No doubt - there's significant difference in output. The 300 is limited to small rooms only because it get's lost in the mix if the volumes are anything over moderate and there's no FOH support. The 500's can hold their own without FOH. Great amps in either flavour.

All PM's replied too....and its still here.

I will ship to Canada folks, but understand that you will have to put in a little extra for the added expense.
