Hi, testing the waters on my Mesa Bass 400. It's in Great Shape, has new JJ 6L6's and adjustable biasing has been installed by member " timv ". Great tone and a collectable amp to boot. Asking $800 shipped, not really looking for trades, but who knows, let me know what you've got. Will be posting pics later

Can you throw 6550's in there instead of the 6L6's?

Hi, yes 6550's will work in this amp. If 6550's were put in this amp, you can dial them in with the adjustable bias I had installed. I believe when these amps first came out they were shipped with 6550's.

What's the wattage, and is it different between the 6L6's and 6550's?

I know that member " timv " did this very experiment on this particular amp ( if you do a search he explains a lot better than I am about to ). Basically, the amp is not made to get the most out of a 6550, it will work and sound GREAT with them, but you won't get a HUGE amount more than the 6L6's; maybe 50 watts. I believe this amp will put out around 170-180W, it is PLENTY loud through my 8x10 and 212's.
