Fender Studio Bass Amp-200 Watt Tube

Sign in to disble this ad
In the continuing sell off of stuff I don't use, is a Fender Studio Bass Amp with 200 Watts of all tube Fender sound. These were built from 1978 and 1981. The amp is fully functional, but is in need of some TLC, and I don't have the time or inclination to deal with it so I'm letting it go for $300. The original EV speaker is in good condition, the footswitch and speaker cable are included, and a head case I built for using the amp section with a different cabinet, if you want. (8 Ohm load only, I used a Peavey 410TX.) This is going to be a local sale only. (See below for what that means.) The chassis on this amp is very long and heavy, but not as stiff as it should be to ship with confidence.

There are user reviews on Harmony Central for this amp, too.

Here's a few details:
200W Output-8 Ohms only
6 X 6L6 power section
Single channel 3 Band tone controls + presence
5 band tube driven, switchable EQ section
Master Volume
Line Output

I drive between Eureka, CA (Near the Oregon border) and San Francisco once or twice a month so a hand-off can be arranged anywhere along the way. PM for details about the condition of the amp or more pics only if you are really interested, please.

If I was on the west coast, I'd definitely think about this one. I had one when they were new, and they are FABULOUS sounding tube amps. Someone jump.

I never had the oportunity. I know it doesn't have anywhere near the power of my (ex) SVT-II.

ONGOING CURIOSITY BUMP

What's w/the 8 ohm only deal? I would consider buying it & selling my D-180, but I just snagged a second 8-ohm cab to go w/the original 1x15- I'd hate not being able to use both cabs for really loud gigs.

I know it's kind of odd, but this thing looks to have been designed as a combo without the option for an additional cabinet. There is only one speaker jack and it is labeled 8 Ohms. They may have been saving weight and $ by not having an output transformer with multiple taps.

Are you sure the speaker is an Altec? I thought these combos had EV speakers? Given my location, I'm wrestling with the idea of grabbing this one. Not that I need it mind you. Just think it might be a really cool project. And I recall these sounding awesome.

+1. Mine definitely had an EV speaker. I remember old Fender advertisements mentioning the EV speaker too. As far as I know, there was no other speaker available with a Studio Bass.

You're right on the speaker, I kept thinking Altec didn't feel quite right. It's been a long time since I looked at it, EV it is, correction made.

Word to the wise: for $300 it'd be worth it to have bofee ship you the head and just skip the cab, if he's willing to do that...

Hey bofee--if you have a minute would you mind pm'ing me with info on what head enclosure you used? I want to turn my Studio into separates too. Much appreciated.
