Alright, so I experimented building a little custom cabinet out of 3/8" plywood. It weighs about 14lbs empty. It's painted, but needs duratex.
The box is very rough. It needs to have its corners rounded off for corners, it could use some bondo on the driver cutout to smooth it out some, and it needs the following:
corners
feet
jack plate
driver
covering (I'd recommend duratex)
I played a few shows with a 3012HO in it then stripped the components for another box -- it worked great, sounded great, but leaked a tiny bit of air around the driver cutout, hence the bondo.
It's a project box for sure, but you could have a fantastic little cabinet out of it.
It's free to anyone who wants to come pick it up. If I've got to ship it, it's 20 bucks for my trouble + shipping fees to have it boxed.

1.3cf or so internal space
dimensions are exactly the same as the Barefaced midget
tuned to +/- a couple hz from 50hz. I didn't measure it, but I tried a couple port shelf lengths and wound up extending it some (you'll see the extension piece in the cab).
Lined with a couple layers of quilt batting
Extremely thoroughly braced

Something whoever gets it might want to consider is using aluminum window frame on the corners instead of rounding it off. The reason I didn't round off the corners is my router sucks and I didn't want to risk killing the 3/8" plywood. It's easy to mess up when cutting or nailing or screwing it. It took me about 20 hours worth of labor due to having to clamp and glue everything.
