FS: 2 CUSTOM MODDED AVATAR 500 WATT 12" BASS CABS W/COVERS

Sign in to disble this ad
For sale are my custom modded Avatar bass cabs and are available as a set, only. Each cab has an Eminence Kappa Pro-12A speaker. The speakers are each rated at 500 watts RMS (see Eminence info below). These are serious cabs for the serious player! Relatively small footprint with HUGE sound. Cabs are black tolex, have chrome corners, are 17"x17"x15.5", and average weight is 45 lbs. each shipped. Professionally designed using premium insulation (see pic), with 2-3"x4.5" tuned rear ports for optimum punch and projection. These cabs are in excellent condition - NO issues and virtually like new. One cab comes with locking casters, the other with large rubber feet, and both are dressed in fitted covers for travel protection. They are more efficient and will put out more sound than many larger cabinets, plus respond well to YOUR sound and playing style. I was assisted with the computer design directly by an Eminence tech to vary from distinctly clean to a driven SVT type tone with little to no outboard add-ons. The cabs are limited only by the new owner's abilities and the quality of amp/preamp used. $400.00 + shipping (cheap)! Open to folks who wish to pick up. Contact: 816.304.9562 in the general Kansas City area OR simply PM me.

In answer to queries of IF I'd consider trades......the ONLY thing I might be open to are Highway One basses. I thank those who have taken the interest and time to respond to this offering

Forgive me if I have asked this question before. How "clean & bright" can you get these cabs to sound? I notice there is no HF driver, and wonder what effect that has, if any.

Thanks for the time, and here's hoping my wife blesses these as an early birthday gift!!!

Actually QUITE clean and bright (2.8kHz + a small size cab makes for good top end). The trick in the design was to achieve good tweeterless high end, solid lows, and good sound dispersion on both stage and out front. I wouldn't (by any means) call these a slapper's nirvana......but I think I hit a home run for tone. They sound a LOT like my Epifani T-112NYC cabs (with the horn dialed down), and are also close in size - just a different style porting.

EDIT: These can also be used in a "cannonball" manner - one box behind the other (Orange does this internally on a couple of their cabs), for a larger sound.

I have tried the T112's and loved the smoothness and warmth. I own Schroeder 15L's now which have max balls, they really sound more like 12's. Any idea of how these would stack up compared to them?

Sorry...I have no idea, as I have no experience with your cab

FYI:
Avatar did none of the design or work - I did it. I took a couple of their (now discontinued as of almost a year ago) new G112 cabs, made the calls for what specs I needed on speakers, port sizes, and insulation material, and then cut the port holes and did the rest of the work. Everything was brand new upon purchase. All the information is in the first post of the thread...with the exception of mentioning they have the factory mounted handles on top of the cabs. I did order and install 2" locking casters on the bottom cab, but have the original rubber feet for the cab that would be included in the sale. I hope this clarifies - it's difficult for an ol' salt like me to remember everything I played through some single 15" Bag End cabs many, many years ago, but I'm at a loss on what model they may have been. The whole idea was for this to be my final 'project', and I'm more than happy with the results. A friend passed away from Cancer leaving me 2 mint T-112NYC cabs (he had 2 of every cabinet Epifani made 8 years ago). Since I use an Epifani UL-502 head, and the cabs compliment it so well (they are made for each other)...it would seem redundant to keep the Avatars - but they are no less of a cabinet IMO.
