The sound identical to my ears. I always loved the SVT3PRO, but found it a little underpowered for the price.

But, since I already have an SVT 3PRO, I won't be springing for this... sorry

The sound identical to my ears. | It's not the same preamp. The SVP-PRO is the preamp section of the SVT-2PRO. Do some research in the "amps" forum.
I now have both, and IME the sound is not at all the same.
The SVP-PRO gets the classic Ampeg "thick rock tone", and can do a pretty good impression of the original SVT with the drive completely off.
The SVT-3PRO is the first Ampeg I'ver heard that might be accused of sounding "scooped". My best guess is Ampeg was trying to offer a more modern sounding SVT at the time. The drive or plate voltage control sounds completely different than the SVP-PRO. Higher plate voltage sounds more modern, clean and punchy, but doesn't go into overdrive like the SVP-PRO can. Lower plate voltage gets a lot more thick and gooey than the SVP-PRO.
There are major differences in design - basically the SVT-3PRO has a 3 tube pre with 2 driver tubes after the preamp. SVP-PRO is a 5 tube pre. The DI on the SVT-3PRO only gets the signal from the 3 preamp tubes. The driver tubes are not in the circuit going to the DI or preamp out. The DI on the SVP-PRO gets the signal from all 5 tubes.
Bump for a great preamp.

Bump for a great preamp. | Wow.. Thanks for the clarrification. I've owned this pre for 4 years and never knew that much about it. All I knew was it was the best sounding preamp off all the ones that I have ever tried.
Here's hoping it will find a loving home.

I don't need a rack setup.

I used this pre with a QSC PLX1602 amp. TONS of power!

International shipping would be killer. (And you implied you wont do that.)
I don't have budget at the moment. Maybe if you still have it for sale in the near future I can bug you with shipping to Europe.
I want one to build a secondary rig so I don't need it right now.
Good luck with selling this.
This is a very cool preamp. |
