FS: Ashdown Bass "Magnifier" preamp EVO II RPM-1

This preamp was the heart of my bi-amp rig. In the past year, I am playing most frequently in a genre where 'old-school' tone is demanded, so the need to haul an entire bi-amp rig around has gone away.

Tonally this thing is everything you could want. The ability to dial in tube warmth and/or grit, the ability to add in sub-harmonics. Extremely powerful, yet simple EQ. Worked great with both my active and passive basses. This is a UK-manufactured Ashdown. The Ashdown manual is here

I should mention that I also ran this unit in a monaural setup into a single 15" and it rocked in that configuration as well.

$375 shipped to Continental US.

I'm willing to ship elsewhere, but would need to provide a shipping estimate to you. Please contact me for details.

Sonically and functionally this unit is perfect. There are some scratches on the black paint, probably from sliding in and out of a rack unit. Also, a previous owner screwed this unit into the rack very firmly, so there are some compression dents on the rack eyelets. The metal is still fully intact though.

This is my first sale on TalkBass, but I've sold a bunch of gear on eBay, with 100% positive feedback. Please PM me for more info and I can provide more detailed pictures too.

Yeah I agree. I recently plugged this unit in again and put it through it's paces: I had forgotten how powerful the EQ is, and how much I liked the SubHarmonic blend - something my current go-to setup lacks.

Totally tempted to hang on to this, even if just for recording.

But -- I am trying to pare down the multiple amps I've accumulated over the years, and I guess I've got to draw the line somewhere.

I noticed that Ashdown was all over the Grammies last night - Beach Boys and Foo Fighters, especially. Paul McCartney too. (Although I think Sir Paul continues to use Mesa Boogie stuff - it was Brian Ray running Ashdown for bass)
