Exclamation FS FEELER: READ Custom Purity Pre - $750.00

Sign in to disble this ad
You know the one. Not for the faint of heart. Nor are these for sale very often. Selling this on behalf of a friend, will get specs up shortly. He was going to do a pre/power rig then went another direction. Has been sitting in storage.

I'm looking it over and it's easily a 9.5 out of 10 condition; conservatively rated b/c I don't like surprises. I only rate it at that because of rack rash around screw holes. But it's a cherry if I've ever seen one. No scratchy pots, tubes sound great, 100% working condition just in time for the holidays. Perfect for yourself or that bass player in your life.

$750 PP ok + actual shipping. Check & MO will have to clear first. No international shipping; sorry. It will be well packed, look at my feedback comments.

It's a Roscoe, so it's fantastic. Haven't played it in a while though, been stuck in Ohio.

I missed being regularly harassed though.

God Bless, Ray

dataBASS - do you happen to know what the center points of the EQ controls are?

Hey there, EN! Nope, in all my searching I never did find a manual for this lil guy. What I can tell you is that this is the most musical EQ in a pre built so well you'll never have to use it (save countering the room). That's a pretty biased answer, so how bout a quote from Jack 'the man' Read himself:

that at all. I changed it to more of an audio style eq, but wasn't happy
with that either. I eventually developed my own eq design, which is a 4 band
eq (bass, low mid, high mid, treble) along with a unique mid emphasis
control. There are also deep and bright switches which do a very good job of
helping to shape the overall tone without ever mucking it up. My primary
design goal was to keep the bass signal Pure, yet offer tonal flexibility.
The eq system took a long time to develop and is certainly the most complex
part of the design.
Hmmm. What am I thinking!?! After reading that I'm thinking this thread might mysteriously disappear shortly.

Hey Modulus, I'm still enjoying the chrome-faced one I got from you. Kept it over the Kern cuz I found it to be a little more versatile with my setup. :-)

I actually have a manual. It's 5 pages. Nothing fancy. I forget exactly where I got it, either from Modulus or maybe from Read's website, which is www.readcustom.com and was still up as of several months ago. If that's not the right site, or you can't find it, pm me with your email address and I'll send a pdf of it to the lucky buyer.

And, unfortunately, the manual does not indicate the eq points, but between the emphasis knob, bass, lo mid (which to me sounds to be maybe around 250), hi mid, treble, deep and bright, you should be able to get what you want. Or, if you like, you can just turn the eq off, which the manual says is as pure direct bass to speaker as you can get (and it is IMHE).

Good luck, DM

I made the same exact choice! I loved the kern, but found the read more musical & had a specific character that I loved.

Glad to hear you still have the Purity Dee-Man. I still miss that pre but for me I'll still take the Kern for the tubey fatness it delivers...The Read is a very close 2nd and is tops for the funk stuff IMHO.
