FS/FT LDS Low Down Sound 5x8 Cab

Sign in to disble this ad
Decided to try and trade or sell my LDS 5x8 cab. It's got four 8" drivers and an 8" mid-range coaxial speaker for highs. Really love this thing, but I like to keep it simple with a single cab and would like something at 4 ohms to suck the most power out of my amp (Crown XTI 1000 bridged mono, driven by an Avalon U5 pre). Cab has some great punch, a really accurate and clean tone. It's carpeted and has some light scuffs on the carpet from a bumpy trailer ride or two. On the hefty side at 80-85 lbs and is a tad smaller (if you ask me) than a typical 4x10 cab, but also has casters to aid in transport.

Got this on TB 4 years ago, and since I usually plug in direct through my Avalon with no amp about 3/4 of the time, this was never used much since I got it. It's "TB lineage" is Tombowlus, Chef, V-12 and then me. Here's the stock pic from the LDS website. Don't think mine is ported like the one shown, but I've been wrong plenty of times. I can take pics and confirm this once I'm not at work.

What I want... First, I'm going to keep this local for now and explore other options later. Local for me is within an hour's drive of the Augusta, GA area. That puts you around Lake Oconee to the west, Statesboro, GA to the south, metro Columbia, SC to the east, Greenwood, SC area to the north.

Looking for cab trades first and foremost... Must be 4 ohms. Nothing larger than, say a 6x10, nothing smaller than a 2x10. I like unique speaker combos like the ones in other LDS cabs, Schroeder, etc. that use a combination of driver sizes so my low B gets good and loud and I maintain some punch. I'm not partial to one brand or another. I'm wide open here. I guess I'd also be open to a couple smaller 8 ohm cabs for some versatility, but they'd still need to be able to handle at least 500w each. I'm willing to throw some cash in, too, for the right gear.

Trades get first dibs, but will do $285 cash. If you're *extra local* and can meet me in Augusta, GA I'll knock a bit off that, too, for saving me the gas.

Bump for real pics of mine. Turns out I was wrong...it is ported after all. Some dust on the thing from not getting used a ton, but it'll all either brush off or come off with a lint roller. Also decided I'll entertain trade offers for fretless stuff, too. Preferably an acoustic fretless, but electric will do for the right one, too. Same deal where I'll put cash toward that, too.

Dimensions? Would you be interested in shipping to Detroit if it doesn't sell locally?

I would think living in Detroit it would be easy for you to find one since they're made there!

I have no packaging to ship this in. Shipping would be a last resort only if I found a steal on a cab and just had no use for this one anymore. Buyer would be responsible for shipping and packing costs, which at that point I would think it wouldn't be that great of a deal anymore...at least if you ask me!

EDIT: Oh yeah, and dimensions according to V-12's thread I bought it in 4 years ago says "Its dimensions are ~24" wide, by 22" tall, by 16.5" deep." I presume they haven't changed in that time, but I'm at work and can't confirm at the moment!

Yeah, I have no idea if Don is still around here. I heard awhile back that he was moving west, maybe Seattle? Regardless, there's probably a pretty good wait for a new cab, and I'm figuring at least double this price.

Website says he closed the store to focus on making cabs full time. Don't know how old that news is, though.

I've booked a Florida musician for a blues festival here on Sept. 9. If he drives up, he might be able to meet you in Augusta and put the cab in his van. I emailed him to see if that's possible. If so, I'll PM you...

Seems like I'd be kind of out of the way coming from Florida, but hey, whatever works.

Guess I don't know my geography. He said he goes through Atlanta. Oh well. Tried. Good luck with the sale.

$285 still. The only way I can do any better is if somebody meets me in Augusta, but that won't be much either. Already a deal from what I've seen them go for.

No hurry on my end. Just taking up space in a room I don't use at the moment anyway.

Been a while bump.

Turned 30. Went on vacation. Flight home cancelled from Tropical Storm Maria. Rebooked and flew home on 9/11. Wasn't my first choice for sure, but it worked out. Back at work and the world is turning again, even if I'm a bit groggy!

Now somebody buy this or trade me something good for it!

BUMP...check out the new pricing. Bought a new amp. Closing out this one for a steal.

A steal at $200
BUT ONLY IF YOU PICKUP IN AUGUSTA, GA AREA
I'll even meet you somewhere
(By Augusta area I mean between GA I-20 exit 194 and SC exit 11)

New price is $250 if I meet you within 1 hr drive of Augusta, GA

No longer interested in cab trades. Will still entertain fretless acoustic trades. Also entertaining trades for Squier Vintage Modified or Classic Vibe basses as they intrigue me. Sterling by Music Man 5 strings also of interest.
