here's a really great sounding, inexpensive ss preamp.
was recommended to me by tb'er tom bowlus.
1/2 rack size, wall wart power with 1/4" plug (yup, 1/4").
1/4" in/ out on the front, out/in switch(more like an on/off than bypass) volume, treble +/- 20db shelving, bass +/- 20db shelving, 24db filter which sounds like a wide bell curve centered around 500hz or so, cut only. (think contour switch on a bass amp, but capable of x2 the normal amount).
simple, no frills, and a great sounding circuit with lots of clean gain and powerful albeit limited eq.
used in the studio direct, as a pre amp in my rig, and as an initial gain stage in front of a large pedal board.
seen some action, but still works perfectly.
