FS/FT: Univox U1246 - Vintage Tube Amp - $280 shipped

Greetings!

I'm selling my newly acquired Univox U1246 vintage tube amp. According to the eBay listing from when I bought it, it is from about 1971. I'm not sure how to date these things. The amp is certainly in fantastic shape for being as old as it may be. I see very few signs of aging, to be honest. It puts out 60 watts, so it'd be great for practices or gigs with PA support. The U1246 is actually pretty lightweight. The UPS shipping label said that the billing weight was 41 pounds. With the top handles, moving the head is a breeze. It is certainly much easier than trying to lug that SVT from room to room.

I fired the unit up with my 8 ohm Avatar SB112 Delta and it sounded pretty darn good, especially considering the price. All of the controls work but they can be scratchy as you rotate them. As far as I've been able to tell, that's the only issue with the head. Once they're set, it sounds nice. It's also surprisingly loud. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with a single 12" driver but it was nice. I'm going to hook it up to the top half of my SVT810E and see how it sounds through a sealed 410.

The amp works with either 16 or 8 ohm loads so my cabinet selection is extremely lacking. I'd only be able to run it with one of my SB112s or half of that huge 810 sitting next to it. Either way, I'd probably never end up taking it to practice; my GK MB200 covers that task well enough. It'd just end up sitting in my parents' basement.

I'll end up taking a loss on this head but the seller doesn't accept returns and I've got GAS for some new recording equipment. It also never hurts to give a TalkBass member a break on the price. Since I haven't had a chance to get attached to this yet, I'm going to try to sell it. I'm certain that someone here would be able to make better use of the head than I ever could right now.

Here are some pictures that I took of the amp when I got it unpacked and brought to room temperature.

These two pictures are from the original seller on eBay that I re-hosted. They are a bit clearer so you can see the front controls and back connections a bit better.

I'm pricing this at $280 shipped and insured via UPS Ground. It came to me well packed and I have all of that still so it'll be a safe journey. PayPal is preferred!

I'm most interested in selling it but would consider trades. I'm not exactly sure what I want, to be honest. Preamps, audio interfaces (USB 2.0 with four to eight mic preamps would be preferred), or powered studio monitors would be most appealing, since I've been into recording lately.

Thanks for looking!

Justin
