FS: Gallien Krueger 1001RB w/ 1001RB-II upgrades

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD

I have a Gallien Krueger 1001RB amp head for sale. It's the Mark I head. I sent it in to Gallien Krueger for repair a couple of years ago. Gallien Krueger replaces all the circuitry with new circuitry. The power supply is the original so it has the Mark I power rating of 540 watts at 4 ohms. All the rest of the circuitry is new Mark-II. So...this essentially has the 1001RB-II tone in a 1001RB case and power. See the picture below with the distinctive "Blue Light" of the Mark II series. Excellent condition. Includes rack ears and a new, unscathed padded Gallien Krueger bag.

$380 shipped to the continental U.S. U.S. sale only. Paypal for payment.

This is a great amp at a very fair price. I have one very similar to it--a Mark I head that was sent to the GK factory for a retrofit to Mark II electronics. Except in my case I put in a new transformer to accommodate European voltage.

Highly recommended!

RMC Audio Direct has the best prices on brand new Gallien Krueger equipment. They'll price match or beat some of the big retailers' online prices. That's where I got mine. You can always buy my amp and get the bag to go with it!

Only if it's set up that way. The GK cabs use a 4 conductor speakon connection where 1+/1- goes to the woofer(s) and 2+/2- goes to the tweeter. If the cab is wired in this configuration, it should work. You can always wire your cab to that configuration with some minor surgery by bypassing the cab's stock connectors and wiring a speakon connector so 1+/1- goes to the woofer and 2+/2- goes to the tweeter. You would then use the amp's controls to blend the two signals to your taste.

I'll bet it would sound great going passive and using the cabs built in crossover. The 1001RB-II's owner's manual details that configuaration. I ran it this way with no issues or complaints.

Great deal, what is it rated at 8 ohms?

If I used a speakon cable with a non-GK cab would it damage the cab?

380 watts at 8 ohms. A regular 2 conductor speakon works fine. You can use it with any cab. That's the way I run it into my SWR cabs. Even if you used a 4 conductor cable, as long as your cab doesn't have the 2+/2- connection on the receiving end, nothing will happen and no signal will be sent anywhere.

Is this rackable? I doesn't look like it, but I've had my share of surprises today, lol.

+1 on these guys. I bought my 1001-II there years ago brand new with free shipping for less than you can usually find them used and beat up...can't beat it.

Yes, it's rackable or rack mountable...whatever the right terminology is! I edited the post to include the rack ears with the amp. Thanks for the head's up.
