It's the same tone as the Shuttlemax 6 and 12's FET channels. Not gritty at all, with a bigger, rounder bottom than the tube pre IME. I prefer its' tone to my Shuttle 9, quite honestly. I've used it with my loud garage cover band on top of an Epi UL2-210-I tilted the 8" combo up at my head and it did fine, albeit not with much room to spare. On top of a pair of 210s it was more than sufficient.
