It's the same tone as the Shuttlemax 6 and 12's FET channels. Not gritty at all, with a bigger, rounder bottom than the tube pre IME. I prefer its' tone to my Shuttle 9, quite honestly. Obviously nowhere near the output of the 9 and audibly less than the 6 as well but still loud enough for a bar rock gig unless you're playing veeeeery loud metal, assuming you use a larger cab. It's stupidly small, like a paperback-fits in an oversized gigbag pocket. Excellent DI and I dig the aux in for my 'puter and drum machine. I've used it with my loud garage cover band on top of an Epi UL2-210-I tilted the 8" combo up at my head and it did fine, albeit not with much room to spare. On top of a pair of 210s it was more than sufficient.
