Pictures to come tomorrow. This is a very cool older preamp made in England (not China like later Joemeeks). It features an optical compressor with a full array of controls, and a unique enhancer section.
The comp is
essentially the same animal as the MC2 I reviewed, though this one is less squishy and effect-y, more "natural". It's still somewhat colorful though, in a vintage-sounding way. I recommend it for people wanting a smooth old-school feel.
The enhancer features the same sort of treble "exciter" process as the BBE and Aphex enhancers, plus a subtle harmonic distortion, with adjustable bandwidth of the effect.
It also has a mic input (with switchable phantom power) if you need that feature, as well as line inputs. There is no EQ on this model! The outputs are unbalanced, however it has enough gain on tap to drive pretty much any power amp.
One cool thing about this unit is it sounds really good when overdriven. Most other channel strips sound like crap when you clip them, but the Meekbox just gives a terrific grindy tone. This preamp was made for rock.
Here's a couple of links about it:
