FS: Kalamazoo Bass 30 - 1966 All Tube Combo

Sign in to disble this ad
Major price drop and amp-only option added! Combo now at $250 OBO. Only possible trade would be for an EA CXL-112 cabinet.

If you're just interested in the tube amp portion I will remove the chassis and control panel (I'll have to cut the speaker wires but if you're going to retrofit this somewhere you'll want to wire them up to a jack anyway) and ship in the lower 48 for $175. I'll probably need 1-2 weeks to do the surgery. It will all come out as 1 piece so aside from the speaker wires you won't have to do any reconnecting.

I'd prefer a local (Chicago area) sale as this is not a lightweight piece...but if you really want it shipped we can talk. Vintage 1966 Kalamazoo Bass 30, made by Gibson I believe and a 2x10 all-tube combo. They are supposed to be loaded with Jensen C10Ps (since this is really, truly a SEALED cabinet I can't get in to take pictures without wrecking something). Sounds very nice, 'tubey' and gets fairly loud (not keeping-up-with-drumkit-and-guitars loud but definitely a full 30 tube watts). Funky flip-out control panel on the rear, works fine, I was told by the guy whom I purchased from that it had a recent cap job and it's appropriately hum-free. Power from two 7591s and 6EU7 preamp tubes. I found a great resource for information on this guy here:

http://www.netads.com/~meo/Guitar/Amps/Kalamazoo/Bass/

And a few pics below. The amp is at my practice space so additional detail will take a few days, but it's in really good shape for an amp as old as me...probably better shape then me. but that's another story. Schematic is stapled to the inside of the chassis. I'm guessing it's about 24x18x10 but will confirm when I get a chance. Weight, I dunno, but not light, maybe 45 pounds or so. I am trying to downsize the gear pile, just don't use this much so looking to get it into the hands of someone who will. Sounds cool with guitar too. I might part it out if there's no love here as the vintage Jensens are in demand these days but it seems a shame to cut into something 43 years old that works well -- so I thought I'd offer it up to TB first. PM with questions or for more info. Thanks!

Memories

This brings back memories. In the summer of 1966 I spent all the money I had saved to buy a Honda motorcycle on a Gibson EB-0 bass and a Kalamazoo Bass 30 amp. I couldn't afford a Fender Bassman. Never got that motorcycle but I've played a lot music.... pretty good tradeoff.

Cool remembrance, BFH. Not too much interest here so I'm going with a pretty major price drop and adding an amp-only option which includes shipping to the lower 48...

Wow, this was my very first bass amp (not this specific one, of course)! I didn't realize any of these existed anymore.

I'm tempted to grab this just for nostalgia's sake.

In answer to a PM about the tubes, I did look at them briefly but don't remember what brand(s)...I remember the seller saying that he didn't replace any of them and they did look older to me but am not sure if they are original or not. I'll see what other detail I can get when I'm next at my space (sometime this week hopefully).

About guitar tone: nice, very smooth. Closer to a Bassman than a Vox, doesn't break up as much as a Marshall but sounds a bit sweeter to my ears.

And about shipping: I have a feeling this could be kinda pricey owing to size and weight; I will try to get a bathroom scale estimate at least. I have no boxes that can fit this thing lying around so probably the easiest thing would be to have a Kinko's or UPS store pack and ship. Anyone with suggestions on where one would go with this?

I had one of these in the late 70's -early 80's and sold it in the Chicago area so this might even be my old one. It had a great tone. Bump for a cool amp.

I had one of these, except mine was in a tall cab with 12" speakers.

Hi all, update on shipping etc...I hope to meet with a possible local buyer and also weigh the amp tomorrow. If that sale doesn't happen I will contact interested (non-local) parties in order with shipping info, also will post weight and other details.
