FS Only: Mesa Walkabout 12"/4-Ohm Cab Only w/Speakon Conversion

Sign in to disble this ad
History:
Purchased a Walkabout Combo as a demo unit from Sweetwater last December. It's the latest version of this combo, with the Player Control Network on the rear panel, Eminence Neo speaker, etc. When purchasing the amp, I asked the phone salesman what "demo" meant, and he explained that this particular amp was used for a short time in their shop for testing and tuning gear, and that during that time it sustained two 1/16" deep punctures on one side (see pics) of the cab. They're shallow and superficial (like Paris Hilton) and have no absolutely affect on the sound or structural rigidity of the cab.

Speakon Conversion:
On the rear panel of the cab, I replaced the stock Mesa speaker wire pigtail with a Speakon jack, making it a true extension cab. I considered just leaving the stock pigtail with it's 1/4" male jack, and using a cheesy 1/4" male-to-male adapter to adapt it to a speaker cable, but it's not a good long term solution. Going with Speakon hardware results in a much safer, better engineered, better sounding result. Inside the cab, I wired up the new conections with Fast-on slip-on connectors (which connect the existing Mesa speaker wires to the rear of the Speakon jack) with good solid crimps, solder, and shrink-tubing.

Usability:
This cab will be best utilized as an extension cab. If you want to mount a Walkabout head INTO this cab, you would need a short speaker cable (1/4" male to Speakon male) for amp-to-cab connection.

Going DI-out from a mounted-in-cab Walkabout head would probably not work, unless you relocate the female Speakon jack lower in the cab's chassis. Were it me, I'd just run the Walkabout head on top of the cab, or on a separate surface (how I've been doing it).

Why I'm Selling:
Want to build a fEARful 15/6 to go with my WB head, and just don't need two cabs at this time.

Condition of Cab:
Excellent. Other than the two puncture marks, the outer covering is pristine, with no tears or scuffs. Handle is excellent. I've only played through the cab at home (no gigging) in a studio practice setting, so in the 6 months I've owned it, the speaker hasn't seen any abuse. These WB cabs are extremely well built, and produce warm, rich low end tone.

Cab ships in original Mesa box/packing materials, with the original Mesa cover (also in pristine condition).

$375 Shipped CONUS, including Insurance & Delivery Confirmation.
PayPal only. No trades. Thanks!

Based on published specs (50# for entire combo; 13# for head alone), the cab alone should come in at 37# –– which feels about right in my hand.
