I purchased this amp back in November brand new. It still has the plastic film on the front. It sounds great and the overdrive channel is a beast. This amp has never left the house and has been in a non-smoking environment. I will also be including a third party foot switch for the overdrive channel.

Here are the specs:
225 watts of all-tube power from six EL34 pentodes
Clean and overdrive channels with footswitch selection
Custom-designed, oversized power and output transformers
Impedance selector switch for 2, 4 and 8 ohm loads to match any bass cabinet
Two parallel speaker output jacks
Two shielded 12AX7 dual triode preamp tubes
Shielded, 12AT7 cathodyne phase splitter for increased power amplifier dynamics
Ceramic tube sockets
Inputs for passive and active basses
Tuner send jack
Footswitchable mute/tune switch with flashing LED indicator
Bright switch
Three-band active EQ with four-position mid-shift switch
Front-mounted, series effects loop
Resonance and Presence damping controls
Balanced, XLR direct output with ground lift and pre/post EQ switch

How well does this thing handle a live setting? Is the 225 watts more than enough to provide sufficient clean headroom?

I have no problems keeping up with a Randall Warhead X2 halfstack and a VERY heavy handed drummer.

How clean headroom do you still have? I have an Alpha head at one time that I loved, but not enough clean headroom for me. I need both clean and mean.

Clean is a different story. I play a pbass with Duncans in it, so its aggressive to begin with, lol. The amp itself can go from a relative clean to a mild svt growl to full on distortion. Depends on which channel you use and how careful you are with the gain control. Also, what type of band you are in. Me, for example: the type of music I play, a super clean tone just sounds dull and stale. A little dirt really brings it out, imo. May not be the case for you. Overall though, its a good amp. I don't regret the purchase at all.

I just need the versatility mainly. I LOVE my 1001RB II but having a tube amp has always been fun. THANKS for the info. I'm now counting my pennies and nickels...

I can't comment on the clean headroom or loudness in a live setting as I have never used this amp in one. However I can only keep the master volume around 2-3 with the clean gain midway without shaking my basement apart. As mustbampeg stated above, it gives off a nice warm clean tube sound and can go to slightly crunchy to full out distortion.

This may be a long shot, but do you ever make it up to the Boston area?

Still holding it for somebody. Giving until the end of the week and then it's up for grabs again.
