FS: SWR BASIC 350

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm putting up for sale my SWR BASIC 350. I purchased this amp brand new in 1993 and have used it ever since.

It's a two rack space amp that weights approximately sixteen pounds and puts out 350 watts into 4 ohms and 450 watts into 2 ohms. The amp has a tube preamp, three band eq with sweepable mid, SWR's aural enhancer, a parallel effects loop with a blend control and an XLR balanced out with a pre / post eq selector.

This was the first amp SWR made that moved away from the "SM" style preamp. The amp has never let me down or given me one bit of trouble. It's spent most of it's life in a rack case but did pick some rack rash on the top which can be seen in the pics. Other than that, it's in mint condition.

I'm selling this amp and original manual for $325 which includes shipping and insurance. I'd also be willing to trade this head for a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0.

LeonD

I have the EXACT same amp - I love it. It's GREAT for those of us who want killer tone with minimal knobs to dial in ; it's easy to use. I can get a lot of great tones from it. It's light, too !

Buy this amp !

Bumpin' up this classic amp.

Anyone looking for simple, pure tone from an original? This is the first generation of a classic. Made back when SWR was a high end company that made high quality products.

I have had not 1 but 2 of those and they are probably one of the best "basic" amps out there. Takes a beating and puts out tone.

I was just using mine yesterday. Well, actually everyday ! I have mine on top of my SWR Goliath III, also handmade in Sylmar, CA.

These amps were made ONLY for one year. I think it was in 1994. The cooling fan comes on when the internal thermastat kicks in. Nice !

HANDMADE and HANWIRED in Sylmar, California. All SWR stuff made in Sylmar, CA is handmade. I used to work at Furman Sound in Greenbrae, CA in the 1980's-1990's. We handmade everything there. We once accidentally drove over a PL-Plus with a Mercedes and it still worked just fine !

I LOVE this amp !

Somebody will NOT be disappointed by this amp ! It goes from hi-fi to Trace Elliot growl and everything in between.

Oh, bump !

OK, illuminate me. I'm looking for a solid all around rock type of tone. I guess my benchmark would be Steely Dan's "Peg" (I know it was a DI to a tube board, but it's the tone I dig.) Is this a natural warm amp, or more of a hi-fi, midrange-y one?

I have this amp and use it to play Peg with my band, its great when going from the funky verse to the slapped chorus! Not a real rock amp, but it can do just about anything.. its more of a hi-fi and clean amp I would say, but you can EQ what you need out of it.

Just a GREAT amp!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Somebody finally said it.

You'd be hard pressed to find something in Guitar Center as well built or as musical for twice the money.

My take on the amp is that it's neutral to hi fi. The tube is for warmth not grind. What ever bass I plugged into it over the years sounded great. I never used the EQ. And with the Aural Enhancer off it was neutral. As you crank the AE up, you crank up the hi fi.

The DI sounds wonderful. And with the parallel effects loop, I'd plug an MP3 or backing track into the effects return and blend the level with the effects level knob.

Thanks for the props guys,
LeonD

P.S. For those that are afraid to jump into the water, buy the amp and play it for a day. If you don't like it, ship it back to me and I'll give you your money back. All you're out is about $20 to ship it back.

But you won't.

Hi LeonD -
I can't believe this amp is still here ! I LOVE mine for a few obvious reasons -
- It sounds great. Go from SWR sound, to Trace Elliot sound, to most any sound.
- It's quality stuff. It's just made well. All handwired and assembled here in California.
- It's light. Even mine in an anvil case is very easy to carry.

C'mon people - this is almost a "boutique" amp that LeonD has at entry level pricing.

These are the most under valued amps I know of. I don't understand it.
Fashion I suspect. 350 Watts into 4 OHMS, 2 OHM stable, very handy parallel effects loop with blend control. If I didn't already have one I'd be buying one.
