FS SWR SM-400S Bass Amplifier (EX-)

-SOLD-

I am investing in some rangefinder camera gear and alas, this means my seldom-used musical equipment is the first to go. I am selling this SM-400S, my first good amplifier, in the hopes that it will have a nice new home with an owner that will enjoy it and continue to play it. I'd rather not part with it but it's not the easiest schlep in the city. I don't use rack gear anymore unless it's for a really big venue. It's certainly toteable without a rack but I am traveling as lightly as possible these days.

This amp, along with the Baby Blue head, is often considered the pinnacle of SWR's production. I have babied it the many years I have owned it. When I lived in the midwest pre-2004, I had a certified SWR tech service it periodically to keep it in top shape. We experimented with preamp tubes and I settled on what I thought was the best compromise between warmth and definition. I can't remember exactly which one is in there now but I could pop the hood and find out if you really wanted to know.

This is a later model manufactured after September 1993 and has an internal cooling fan. There is a little wear noticeable on the edges and some of the screened lettering has come off but all of it is well within the realm of normal wear for its age. The front right rack ear is slightly bent but does not affect the function. It has been sitting for a while now so it has a few scratchy pots and could benefit from a little spray. Everything else is in perfect working order. The XLR output is clean and strong and all functions operate properly.

Some specifications:
• Serial Number: #8116
• All aluminum chassis
• 12AX7A dual triode preamp tube

Hi Ivan,

Sorry, at this time I am not interested in shipping it in the lower 48, let alone internationally.

If it doesn't sell within the next few weeks I might consider it. I'll let you know.

Thanks for all the comments and interest, everyone! The head has been sold to a great guy.
It's nice knowing it went to a good home. Ciao!
