FS/T: Gallien-Krueger 1001RB-II

I'm thinking about selling my GK 1001RB-II. It's served me pretty well over the few years I've had it. It's never been gigged, unless you count a couple coffee shop sessions. Most of its 3 years with me has been spent as you see it in the photo -- just sitting in my bedroom. The volume's never been past 3. No serious problems since I've had it, except for one thing: There's a speaker pop when I turn the amp off. The pop isn't there if I turn the volume down before powering down. Aside from that, it sounds and plays flawlessly, just as it should. You just have to turn the volume down before turning it off.

I recently took it to Tim Gibbs, of Toy Box Audio, a certified GK tech to figure out the pop, but after 6 months (took it to him in March, got it back in September) and $212.50 worth of time and labor, he couldn't find anything. He removed the preamp board, cleaned the pots, looked up ECOs, called GK twice, and replaced two transistors. In the end, though, the amp still makes a pop when turned off, UNLESS I turn the master volume all the way down. With that in mind, Tim said he was pretty sure the problem is in the preamp board and could only suggest, at this point, that I ship it off to GK, who will likely just replace that board.

Asking $400 shipped, or shoot me amp trade offers.
I need something lightweight, and I'd like to try something with a tube.

Here are some I've been eyeing:

- Carvin BX500
- Genz Benz GBE-600
- GK 700RB-II
- GK MB2-500
- MarkBass LMII

Sorry for the lack of updates on this. We recently moved.
Anyway, it's still for sale or trade, although I need money now more than ever.
Why you ask? I'm buying a ring for my girl!

quick question,

do you mute it before you power it down ? ( that should eliminate the pop )

I turn the volume down and that does the trick, but the thing is that the pop was never there before, and that has me wondering "why is it there now?"

It's still here.

If you don't mute it or turn the volume down, it's a fairly loud pop, otherwise, it's a perfectly functional, great sounding amp.

Okay, guys, I'm getting desperate. I'll take $350 shipped. That's a steal, if you ask me.

A huge steal at $350....think you are over-blowing the pop. What cab are you playing it into? If it's that combo, perhaps you may have some output devices that are connected to the output while the combo amp is powered down. The 1001 is a very powerful amp and enough so that perhaps it's charging a cap in the output stage of the combo amp or something. Have you connected it to a different cab-only cab?

I've tried it through different cabs. It's the amp, and I'm sure a cap isn't bleeding out the current properly. A simple fix. The tech I took it to said GK could put in a new board for about $100 and that would likely fix the problem. However, the pop isn't why I'm wanting this thing sold. I need the money.

"Hmm..." indeed!
Might you be hinting at a trade?
