Here's the story. I bought this GK BLX210 to leave at my drummer's house for practice. It was literally brand new in November 2010. We took a little hiatus over the holidays, and when I went back to pick it up (drummer changed jobs and was moving to Charlotte) his cat had decided that it was a scratching post and had ripped the carpet off of the back.
awesome....
well, I've never liked rat fur anyway so I decided to re-tolex this bad boy in a light cream colored vinyl which actually looks pretty Badass, but due to some other recent gear acquisition, Mrs. Rocket says this has to go.
This was my first re-covering attempt, so it's not perfect, but it is functional and solid.
It's not really worth it to ship, but I thought if anyone in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area would want it, I'd put it up here for sale. It's going on CL too for $125 or trade, so how about $100 for TalkBassers.
I'm also plenty interested in trades for items of similar value. Nothing in particular in mind, so if you have a trade idea, run it by me.
Here are some pics:

You could certainly shave a few pounds off with neo speakers.

Did going from rat fur to tolex have any effect on tone that you could hear?
I'm contemplating this kind of alteration on my cab now

My wifes cats (3) completely tore up both my SWR cabs. "Rat Fur" describes it perfectly... Then they tore up all the foam on my new auralux great gramma isolator and had a go at my PA speaker and monitor bags as well.... I was so pissed off I rented a small storage area down the street where all my good gear goes between gigs and rehearsals since nothing is safe at home... here's why I'm still married: she felt so bad she bought me a new Bergantino Ae212 to make up for it... So far the cats have no interest in Bergs!
Anyway, I think I'll try something like this with the SWRs... Any tips for someone who has never attempted anything like this before? did you just jump in or did you already know bit of what you were doing? any on line resources?

As far as your question mglabrie, I just jumped in after reading on the internet. Removing the rat fur is the hardest part. I just searched for advice on re-tolexing a cab on google and waded through that info. nothing in particular though. |
