This is an amp that everyone should have once in their career, it gives you something to judge all the rest by!

It is the direct antecedent of the Thunderfunk and the contemporary of the original SWR SM500, the controls are identical save the cut/boosts are rotary instead of those sliders and its all solid state. I used one in the mid to late 1980's, it was tight and punchy as hell my only issue was with the metal case as the heat sink that sucker would get hot! You can see Darryl Jones rocking one in one of the Miles concert dvd's. Developed by the people from the original Acoustic company.

Steve Rabe from SWR designed and developed these amps... I worked at SWR and Steve told me this.

220 watts@ 8 ohms, 400 watts @ 4 ohms. Here's an older owners review that will fill in the blanks. Oh, BTW....... it's a great amp!

Don't leave out Russ Allee. It's HIS name on the schematic drawings.

Yes indeed...don't believe everything you hear!

Actually, it's my understanding that Rabe contributed to the preamp circuit, but the power section is all-Allee.

Bump for great amp

Another free bump for you. I have had my BH-420 for 15 years or so. It's officially my backup amp now, but it still sees a lot of use. The Shuttle 6.0 gets grabbed for convenience, but I love the sound of the BH-420. It is indeed the amp that I judge all others by.

Good luck!
