MATCHLESS THUNDERCHIEF; 200 WATTS OF PURE HI-FIDELITY ALL TUBE GLORY

Sign in to disble this ad
Yup, you read right. I'm selling my Thunderchief. I had to leave the band I was in, as school is just way too demanding (and expensive). As such, this masterpiece is going unused...which is an absolute shame. This amp was JUST retubed with NOS Winged C KT88s, cost me $400 for the power tubes alone and then a couple hundred more to have the damn things biased and the tube amp looked over. Also, forgot to mention that the preamp tubes are NOS 1956 Sylvania tubes, beautiful and never used!!! The sound is indescribably amazing. You have *not* heard what your bass can truly do if you haven't plugged it into this puppy.

This is a Mark Sampson era amp, one of the absolute very few ever made, never to be made again. This amp is in absolute excellent condition; it tests and functions as though it just left from the factory.

With this amp comes a FREE flightcase, worth $500. Between the tubes, flightcase, and checkup, you are looking at over $1000 worth of "extras" being given with the amp. Not too bad, huh?

$5000, thanks for looking. Please, no lowball offers, I will politely ignore them. Trades will be considered, but the overwhelming odds are that I will say no thanks.

THE PICS!!!! :

*Please note, the tubes pictured are old, and one is blown. These have been changed to fantastic, brand new, NOS beauties with under an hour of time on them in total. I baby all my gear, this is no exception. Thanks again for having a look!

As I have personal experience with this exact amp (which was once owned by Pat Metheny!), I think I'm in the clear to say it's, downright, the most amazing amplifier I've ever been run through. Pure, tubey fatness that, amazingly, retains the articulation of quicker amplifier such as the Markbass series. This amp is, by far, head and shoulders above anything else on the market, including the Mesas, SVTs, Macs, and Hiwatts. The 200 watts, give it a flavor similar to the Walkabout, as you can get a meaty sound fairly easily, though not to say the amp won't get loud and clean. This amplifier is truly a master of all trades, and deserves the name MATCHLESS.

It's also about half the weight of similar amps. Bang! ;-)

Now lets talk trades, Constantine! .. And organ selling!

Back atcha

Hey, took a peek at your profile...if you plugged in your 64 J into this amp, I'm pretty sure the ground would shake and the sounds of O Fortuna would be spontaneously heard as a rip in the space time continuum shattered the boundaries of what we think we know.

I had the pleasure of playing one of these in the late 90's.

Simply, the best tube amp I've ever played.

And I've played them all SVT, Orange AD200, Reeves 225, Sadowsky SA200, Sunn 2000s, Mesa D180. JMO
