I decided to add another bass to my arsenal of shiny weapons, so in order to fund the bass, something has to go. Since the new bass has active electronics, I will be selling my Ampeg SVP-Pro. As you all know, this is the same preamp that is found in the legendary all tube SVT II Pro. It really gives you that Ampeg sound when you play with the drive knob and the five position mid voicing switch. Pair this with a good power amp and you could have an SVT rig that weighs in at about 25 lbs and packs over 1,000 watts of power while retaining that signature Ampeg sound.
I did a little tube swapping to improve the tone of this pre and found that a GT (Sov) 12ax7 in V1, a Ruby 12ax7 in V2 and 3, and the factory Electro Harmonics in V4 sounded the liveliest. V5 is supposed to be a 12ax7, but I installed a NOS RCA 12at7 to help lower the noise floor feeding into the power amp. I will of course include another Ruby 12ax7 for you to swap into V5. I will even include the RCA 12at7 box so if you choose to sell the tube later on, you can do so as a complete unit. However, the 12at7 has more than enough oomph to drive the input of my QSC PLX 1202 into steady clipping with the master wide open and the input gain on the pre barely flashing.
There is the usual rack rash on the top and bottom and around the screw holes, but that is not visible when you rack the unit.
This SVP-Pro works without issues and will be packaged very well because it is an all tube preamp.
