Wow, I hardly know enough about this to ask an intelligent question. Um, I use Sadowsky and Musicman HH basses...looking for something light to run into a power amp. Do you know the input impedence? Do you know if this unit has any kind of HPF? Or what the low end rolloff is? Ever used it with a piezo equipped instrument? I'll try diggin around the Phil Jones site.
The comp is good but it doesn't have a lot of headroom. I mostly use it as a headphone amp, it sounds really good. I have run it in front of the power amp on my AI Clarus.
