Rare Ampeg 8x10 SVT HPC Bass Cabinet (VA/DC/MD/NC etc.)

Ampeg 8x10 SVT HPC Bass Cabinet

LOCAL ONLY: I'm in Charlottesville, Virginia but I can ride an hour two in any direction for delivery.

TRADES: I want a 2x15 or some combo of 15's, 10's, 12's, and 6 inch speakers, no horns. What I'm really looking for is a cab on either side of the stage, otherwise I'd keep this thing.

SALE: $550

This is a monster cab. Talked to Don Oatman from LDS about it, he said "That cab should sound really good." It does, it's just too heavy for me. This particular model is hard to find. The "HPC" or "High Performance Cabinet" came out in the Summer of 2003, and I bought this one straight from the factory in Fall of that year. It was made in the USA, and the newer 8x10's are nowhere close to its power rating.

It's 1500 watts and 3000 watts peak!!!!!

And it fits in my 2003 Ford Escape as you can see:

The cab is in great shape, very little damage to the tolex. I am the first and only owner and I haven't gigged out with it much, or even played through it very often. I bought it right when I started a college career, and am only now getting back into playing.

That said, The "towel rack" tilt handle on back was dented in the original shipping.

Also during shipping, or somehow, one of the speaker frames got a bit scratched and the paper scraped off.

Its in the pics, a little lighter area where the darker black got scraped off. There was also a tear in the grill cloth. I threw a fit about it and Ampeg sent me a new top grill cover and replacement 10 inch speaker. The damage didn't effect the sound at all, so I put on the new grill cloth and left the speaker alone. I still have that extra 10 inch speaker and will throw it into the sale.

Check out the specs:

The SVT-810HPC features six cast-frame drivers with edge-wound aluminum voice coils, and twoTractix wave-guide coaxial speakers for high frequency definition. The combination allows for a two-way bass enclosure while maintaining the infinite baffle design of the original SVT810E enclosure.

The cabinet is carefully constructed from 13-ply Baltic Birch, and is then loaded with heavy-duty custom designed cast frame speakers. The cabinet also features steel bottom handles, an industrial strength grip bar and heavy-duty wheels. Skid rails and a metal kick-plate are placed on the back of the enclosure to protect it while loading and unloading.

SVT-810HPC Specifications:

* Frequency Response: 50Hz – 18kHz
* Power Handling: 1500 watts RMS / 3000 watts Peak (mine says 1600 RMS on the back of the cab)
* Imdedance: 4 ohms
* Sensitivity: 100dB SPL 1w/1m
* Maximum SPL: 131dB (OMG!!!!!)
* Crossover Freq: 6kHz
* Weight: 205 lbs.

So....in a nutshell, what would be the main difference between these cabs and the Classic 8-10? I may be interested and I'm in Eastern NC.

Nutshell:

This cab has a higher power rating, 1500 watts versus 800, also this cab has a wider frequency range.
This one is heavier than the 810e, but it sounds better, to me at least.

Detail:

The power rating for one. The Classic series 810E are rated at 800 watts rms, this is 1500 watts. The price of the power is that the magnets are heavy, making it heavier than the newer cabs. What I like about it is the plug and play confidence that, failing a complete screw up, nothing catastrophic is going to happen, the cab will handle what you kick to it, and it sounds great, with tight focused low end.

The only other big difference is the frequency range. This cab has wider frequency response than the 810E because it has those coaxial drivers.

This is a SERIOUS touring grade cab...I have seen them and played through them on a number of occasions where High-End PA and first class Backline is provided. This cab has a coax speaker as mentioned that makes it reach quite a bit higher and sound a LOT better than the typical 8X10 (at least IMO). For the price I would have to get this myself! It is a total BEAST to move around but for anyone that is doing heavy touring and HAS to have an SVT cab, THIS is THE ONE to get...Personally I prefer a Bergantino NV610 or 2 if were going this route but this would be the one I would get otherwise....Hope it is available for someone!

Peace,

T

Still here

HI gang,
I was offline for a while, but I'm back. I'm still looking for a sale or trade, for this cab. I really need 2x15's and I would prefer a sale so I can have one made for me. This cab rocks, but you know that.
