SWR SM400s trade for 800RB

Sign in to disble this ad
Thats it..I can't sell the SWR until I get a new head and i really want to try an 800RB. Maybe a longshot, but you never know.
I would add 150 bucks.
The SWR is really clean and has the original manual and bi-amp jack.
Thanks

sometimes

I've been playing an SM400S since I don't know when and have played 800RBs before. You should just hit a music store and try the 800RB rather than give up your sweetness.
I guess it all depends on the sound you're looking for but the SM400S is so versatile and 800RBs is what they is.

just my two cents. nothing wrong with a 800RB - it's just not all that compared to an SM400S, IMHO.

Thanks for the advice. I have trouble dialing a good sound with the SWR, it always seems to boomy on the low end. I'm using an Aguilar GS115 cab...I'm also trying locally to trade the 15 for a 2x10.

My first head was a GK 800RB. The one I've been using lately? SWR SM400. Don't do it! Take advantage of all the EQ cut and boost available and I'm sure you can get what you want. I'll bet switching to a 210 (or 410) will also help.

I was considering the same trade myself. I like my SWR but, It has too many EQ options. The GK is more plug and play.

The GK has more grind where the SWR is really clear. YMMV.

Good Luck.

Im in the same boat, I have an SM500, I keep tweaking and with the EQ it has you can tweak forever but Im not liking any of the tomes Im getting. Its a very clean amp and I want some dirt. The 800RB seem perfect.

I have the sm400s and just sold my sm400. Have you experimented with cranking the gain and hitting the pre-amp tube harder? You can get some amazing sounds out of that amp even with the eq flat. I will add the fact that I run mine through a 4x10 goliath in bridge mode. Echoing moduman... 4x10 or 2x10 will probably be a better choice... or just a 2x10 and keep the 15 and stack em.

Wow, I used SM-400's for 20 years and I can't imagine how it is too "boomy on the low end!" The EQ takes some getting used to, but is very flexible and effective. As far as 15's vs. 10's, I don't think that is going to solve your problem either.

I would think that getting a 2x10 would help quite a bit, honestly.

I love my 800RB and don't want to trade, but will support your want of a trade. I think you'd like it a lot.
Not that the SWR is a bad amp, I always loved their tone capability, but the GK always had a lot louder output and I freaking love 'em for that.
