SOLD

For sale or trade is my old trusty Trace Elliot GP7SM head.
250w
7 band EQ with pre-shaping
DI

It's pretty beat up from playing out here and there. There are numerous scratches and marks on it, the face is bent a little where the output level volume is, the fan is kind of loud, it has a slight hum... but it's a great sounding, killer amp.
I bought it second (or maybe third, I don't remember) hand about 17 years ago. It's been a great amp a long time and I don't see it dying anytime soon.
This can be yours for $150 shipped CONUS.
Trades: I'm open to a lot of things mostly bass parts, P bodys, and jazz necks and that sort of thing. A Sadowsky outboard pre. An old Squier 5-string P would be great but I'm not holding my breath. If you got something interesting, let me know. Trades aren't limited to this stuff alone.

The fan has a slight hum, or the amp itself?

The amp itself has a hum/hiss to it when the master volume is turned up past 75%. The fan itself is just louder than most modern amps. According to my sound meter (on my phone) the fan noise runs about 20db and its louder than the hiss from the amp. The fan noise reminds me of a PC power supply fan noise.
It would be fine for live use with the DI out but not good for studio work where it would be mic'd directly on the cab with a horn. With the horn disabled it's not really noticeable.

If you need 75% on the output you probably haven't got enough input from getgo.

The manual with my SMX covers the whole line with SMX preamp. The output attenuator on my amp certainly seems to follow the assertion in the manual that there is full gain at about 4 or 10.30 o'clock.
The rest of the gain available is there for the standalone pre to be able to drive a power amp with low input sensitivity.

Somehow I doubt the hiss is coming from the amp itself. What happens if you unplug the input and wind up the gains?

Not so heavy. My 250 is 14kg in its rack sleeve.

There is a slight hiss when there is no input plugged in and it gets louder when you turn the master volume to 7, that's with the input gain at 5 or 12 o'clock. The mute button kills the hiss... but like I said, its a slight hiss and the fan is louder than the hiss.

By the way, on my 250SMX I've never had the output gain up to 4... not even at 8 ohms.

Yes, waiting on the payment to come in and then it'll be shipped out and thread locked.

This is now sold and gone.
