SOLD!!!!
Thanks to all who looked and offered.
Up for sale is a Thunderfunk 550A that's been upgraded to 550B spec plus a little extra, making it a 550B+ or maybe a 550C or perhaps a 550ZX turbo!
[Price is $750 not the $800 that shows up when you search - FYI]
See post below this one for link to pictures. Amp is in perfect condition physically and functionally (funktionally?) and I'd give it a 9 outta 10 for cosmetics. Little scratches here and there but nothing bad and pretty much pristine in front.
I bought this amp from a fellow forum member in May of 2010 and have used it for maybe an hour total. I way overbought for my application of middle-aged weekend punk rock bassist, so the TF needs to find a more appropriate home. It just gathers dust here and I'm tired of dusting it!
Has the switch, the gold chip, and many other upgrades (see below) and is currently missing its feet and handle, as well as screws for the rack ears. It has the rack ears. If you plan to rack the amp, all you'd need is the rack-ear screws, as you'd likely be taking the handle and feet off anyway. I'm sure you can get handles and feet from various sources, but if you require the real deal they can be had for $30 for the whole schmeer (feet, handle, and all screws - stainless, I might add) shipped. Owner's manual and power cord are included. In addition to a general looking-over and clean bill of health from DF, here's a note from Mr. F to the previous owner concerning the A-to-B transformation:
"Your amp is done. The only charge is for return freight of $35.
The changes are:
Input cap to block the pop when switching.
Cache caps on the power amp to smooth the high end and give a more natural sound.
In-rush current limiter for a softer turn on.
Surge protection to help protect the output transistors from power line surges.
A change in the power limiter values to increase the drive from the preamp, which increases the power out to 590-watts.
A slightly larger tone cap to make the amp brighter.
Shorter switches to protect them from breaking.
Cleaning the FX loop contacts and pots.
The only other change is: Do you want the “Gold Chip” input preamp? There’s a $25 charge for that. It gives smoother highs and lows and a better all around tone."
The anti-pop capacitor is a feature that comes stock on the 750 series amps which silences the pop if you have an active/passive switch on your bass and feel the need to flick that switch in the middle of a performance. Gold chip was added.
Will ship free to CONUS. Sale/shipping elsewhere to be determined on a case-by-case basis. Amp will be very carefully packed and insured to make double-sure it survives the trip from my place to yours.
Sorry for all the text - just wanted to put all the info out there so folks can make an informed decision. I don't have much history here, but I'm registered as "schickler" over at eBay if you wanna check out my track record. Thanks for looking.
