Univox 1011: 100w all-tube amp for sale

Sign in to disble this ad
This is a vintage Univox 1011 amp. It's a 100 watt all tube amp with four 6L6's in the power section, 12AX7's in the preamp, and several other tubes to handle the effects (I'll get back to that in a second).

Features:

*2 inputs with individual volumes and "bright" settings - I used to use these to swap between EUB and BG.

*Bass, Mid, Treble, and Presence controls.

*Tube tremolo with speed and depth controls, and tube-driven spring reverb. I don't have the reverb tank, but I suspect few bass players would want it. The reverb driver does work though, so if you wanted to have spring reverb you'd just need to plug a tank into the RCA jacks.

*foot switch inputs for the effects (does not include footswitch)

This is a great-sounding amp, with beefy transformers and plenty of clean booty in the low end. Gets pretty loud while still in clean territory. It doesn't ever get really distorted unless you hit it with a boosted signal, but it does become beautifully woolly when cranking the volume as you'd expect from this kind of amp. It responds really well to pedals, and the best overdriven bass sounds I've ever had were from hitting this with a clean booster, or especially running a cranked fuzz into it.

The amp is from around 1971 I think. It's in good shape and I've always taken care of it, never dropped it, never dimed it (way too loud to do that in any situation I've ever played). The knobs are not original, and it is missing one of the handles on top. I don't have a scale, but it's not too heavy considering the size and the era from which it came. I am a totally scronny weakling and I used to lug this up to my fourth-floor apartment in an old Baltimore brownstone all the time.

It has the original output tubes which tested very strong about 6 months ago when I had a tech do a check-up on it. The pre tubes may not be original, not sure. It operates well and sounds good - the only issue I've ever noticed is that about every fifth time I turn it on, it hums for a minute or 2 before being nice and quiet. Letting it warm up in standby for about 2 minutes totally alleviates that.

Price: $295

Not looking for trades at this time.

Shipping: I think shipping will be around $50-70 in the US, but of course it will vary depending on your state, so I can get shipping quotes if you PM your zip code.

I can take other pictures or give other info if there's something I forgot or wasn't clear, just let me know.

I wish I got paid enough to afford this... I even have the spare reverb tank lying around!
