Vintage 1973 Ampeg SVT 8x10 speaker cab with cart!

Sign in to disble this ad

I bought this guy a month or so ago and have no use for it. It appears to be an all-original 1973 Ampeg SVT 8x10. I pulled one of the speakers and it is CTS with a 3rd week of 1973 date. Since all the speakers look exactly the same with the exact amount of "aging" I'd venture to say none have ever been replaced and all are original.

Since it has the "old-style" plug on the back the only piece I have to use to test it is a Portaflex head I have that needs some re-tubing. It proved at the very least that the cab works perfectly. However, there are two speakers that have small holes in them (pictured, top left speaker and bottom left). One has a hole in the edge of the speaker (very hard to see) and one has one that was taped over long ago and the tape has fallen off.

As for the rest of the cab, I'm not sure if the grill covering is original. I'm sure someone would know better than I. My guess is no. Definitely stapled to the original wood though, at least. The cab itself is structurally perfect but the tolex is worn and torn on the outside (as expected for a workhorse!) Pictures show how much. The grill has a hole as well.

Includes the original wheelcart! Works well.

Definitely a player and with a little TLC can give a mighty sound like no other. Looking to get $550 B/O for it or a trade for something Fender or Ampeg.

Strongly prefer local pickup. I am 1.25 hours from Buffalo, 2.5 hours from Rochester, 2.5 hours from Pittsburgh, 2 hours from Cleveland, 2-3 from the Youngstown/Akron/Canton area, and 2.5-3.5 from Syracuse/Binghamton/Elmira. I have friends in nearly all of those places and a vehicle so I can meet halfway if need be (of course, I'd want a little compensation for that) If there is serious significant interest I'll look into shipping. But I'm really not that interested in that hassle and would not mind driving it to somewhere.

Definitely! I'd keep it but I'm a rambling soul, single and with money to throw around...and not touring arenas so this is a liability.
