Interesting design has both preamp and power tubes but is still a hybrid. 400w @4ohm and has Speakon and xlr jacks, no 1/4" jack. Two channels, one tube and one solid state.

The key feature of the amp are the two preamp channels you can select from, either the solid state or tube. The range of tones makes it very versatile
The tube pre is my favorite and is what I use when playing with the rest of the band. It's got two tubes, a 12XA7 and an EL84 power tube. You can go light with the just the 12 for a bit of warmth or engage the EL84 and dial in the grit with the drive knob. The eq is pretty basic with only 3 switches for lows, mids, and highs that you can boost or cut, but at least a separate knob lets you adjust the specific range of the mids. I particularly like the control the drive knob gives you, later warwick amps don't have one and it sucks. But I really can't emphasize how much I love this tube pre for getting a gnarly fuzz tone going.
The SS pre is much cleaner and has the 8-band EQ. I use it when practicing at home and playing clean solo bass-type stuff. It is really cool to just switch the total character of the amp, and you can get a footswitch for it as well.
Overall just a really good amp - Warwick's best in my opinion (not counting the Pro Tube IX which was never available in the US) and this one is a great value. |
