1970s fender P bass neck- "a" width 1.5 at nut

Sign in to disble this ad
1978 fender P bass neck in a rare A width nut, meaning this neck is as slim at the nut as a J bass is , 1.5 inches.

It has a brass nut that was on it when i got ti but its is not glued down its just sitting in the slot, I will include a plastic one that would need some filing to work.

The tuners are not originals but direct fit schallers and in good shape. The string tree is black and worn , either replacement or the original and painted. My guess a replacement.

Looks to have no previous repairs there is some chipping around some frets which make me question a refret at one point but I believe there original and have 80-85% fretlife still available.

The neck is pretty worn , lots of little dings etc, one of the dots on the fret board is missing at the 12th fret position.

No extra holes at the heel.

Serial number-s868021
Markings on back of heel read-4281 , JE ( in pencil) and a circle that read FRR42.

Bottom of neck where the truss rod adjusts reads-0104-3984, its rather hard to make out the first 2 so I may have messed those up.

Its a great feeling neck I never used it and was planning on putting it on my classic vibe P bass body in my sig but changed plans.

Its over 30 years old so as I said its worn , not trying to make it sound minty, you may need to file the frets a tad , but it just may need a routine leveling for playability sake.

Here is a comparable neck on ebay , no hardware on it and its more worn then mine.

Significant price drop.

I realized as i said it may need a fret leveling well all the frets are good, not super worn or anything but a few frets are sitting higher not all the way in the nut slot mainly 6 an 7 I believe , honestly it looks like you just may need to seat them better , they appear to not be seated all the way , again I am no luthier so I am dropping the pice 100$ , i think this makes the neck a pretty screaming deal.
