Alesis SR18 drum machine

[SOLD] Alesis SR18 drum machine - $175

This drum machine was bought new last fall and is in great condition. Comes with box, paperwork and adapter.

A drum machine is a great practice tool. A simple metronome is important, but a drum machine adds something else and brings excitement to your private study. The SR18 is cool for how accessible it is. There are over 150 preset patterns (some even in 3/4, 5/4, or 6/4) in two banks that you can put to use immediately. What is a pattern in this context? A pattern is a preset sequence (typically 4 bars) of drum kit, auxiliary percussion, and bass, with a particular sample set, divided into an A section, B section, and a fill to move between them.

Any combination of the drum kit, percussion, or bass tracks can be muted or combined so you can use the SR18 to sequence a basic chord change that you could solo over on bass, or you could mute the bass line and have just a clave pattern in the percussion track, or you could have all three tracks as a sketch pad to take to band practice, for instance.

Some of the presets are gems but you'll probably want to make your own eventually. You can record in real time with the pads or with MIDI input, or step through each beat inserting hi hat, maracas, snare, or any 32 sounds in your selected drum/percussion and bass palette for that pattern. As an aside, you can build your own custom drum kit by picking 12 sounds (for each of the 12 pads) from the 571 samples, then applying your own compression, reverb, or eq settings.

Other cool features are a good MIDI implementation, foot switch jacks for start/stop and A to Fill to B segues, battery power optionally, great sound, an 'instrument in' to make this a 'one box' practice tool, pattern play to assign patterns instead of sounds to each of the pads, and a whole lot more. This has been upgraded to the latest firmware.

price is shipped to lower 48 - paypal, please - probably no trades

thank you!

Now here's something cool: the SR18 has a stereo AUX out section that you can use for dividing instrument layers between two stereo pairs! So imagine the flexibility of having a pattern where the drum kit is output to separate compression, processing, mixer inputs or amps while the claves, guiras and hand claps are handled independently. And of course the sounds can be panned in a stereo field as you please.
