Bartolini Active Preamp -- Wanna Experiment?

Sign in to disble this ad
Circa 1988 Bartolini preamp -- takes input from your passive volume control; adds active bass and treble controls with the hi-fidelity sound you expect from Mr. Bartolini. 9/18/27v operation. Fairly-helpful factory instructions included.

This came from a late-eighties Carruthers EUB. This preamp, which apparently is out of production, would be a great way to experiment and find out whether active EQ is for you. Or use it to upgrade that [insert name here] you've got hanging around.

Better yet: I'll mail it to your door anywhere in the US for only $50.00.

Is a battery harness included? Is this a piezo buffer preamp?

Looks like an EMG BTS, not Bartolini.

I was thinking the same thing, but didn't speak up for fear of being wrong!

If it's older, as the OP suggests it is, it may be slightly different than what they've done recently. I've personally never seen a Bartolini preamp that 1) wasn't epoxied, and 2) had any sort of dipswitch on it.

EDIT: plus the knobs look like what EMG uses.

Along these lines, while the ciruit board is usually attached to a pot, it could just as easily be wired. I suspect it was done this way to accommodate the instrument it came from (i.e. fit in the control cavity better). That looks like no Bartolini pre I have ever seen, but REALLY looks like an EMG pre. Down to the "B" sticker on the one pot (it's the Bass pot) to the double DIP switches for Treble frequency. And yes, those are EMG knobs.

Definitely looks like an EMG (knobs, circuit size and shape, 9/18/27v, etc)
Definitely does not look like a Bart

This is what Bart preamps usually look like:

Bingo. It's EMG.

Guys, I am such a doofus that if you look up "doofus" in the dictionary you'll see what I look like.

KeithPas, I will PM. If you're not on it I will re-post. Thank you all for your patience!

No worries - people make mistakes. Still a great preamp at a good price. If I didn't JUST buy one last month, I'd be buying yours now
