No, never played in San Antonio... I am not gigging frequently these days, although we had a gig last week.
At any rate, the MK-1s are great pickups. And you have a great price on them. Good luck on the sale! |

But I think the nordy/audere combo will open up the sound a bit more and they maybe a little sweeter and deeper based on past experience. We shall see. I've had a couple of nordy/audere equipped jazz basses and I was impressed. We shall see. Thanks

I had a JO5 with Nordies (split coils) and an Audere and while it sounded good it didn't wow me. If I pair an Audere with the stock MK1's, will that make a huge difference or do I need to change the pups too? The stock pre is horrible with way too much boost in all 3 frequencies!

You may want to try just upgrading the preamp first to see if it does the trick. If not, you could upgrade the pups later. I bought new sets of fat stacks and big singles about 1 1/2 years ago when Blueberry Hill Bass (I think) was blowing them out, been meaning to install'em ever since. Hope this helps. Love 5501's...

But different strokes for different folks, eh? |

But different strokes for different folks, eh? | I could totally live with the MK1 package. But I think the nordy/audere setup will open the sound more to my liking. We shall see, I dropped off one of my basses and goodies with a guitar tech today. Should be ready by Saturday, I will report back.
I'll have one stock and one modded to A/B. If I like it I'll have the other modded too.

But different strokes for different folks, eh? | Decided to keep one 5501 w/ stock electronics. After A/B'ing them this one bass sounds really sweet with the stock electronics package and why mess with a good thing. I have a new respect for the stock package. I think it's more suited for rosewood boards, to my ears any.
I do like the Big Split Singles in the natural/maple board bass. Beware the big singles are hot pups but allow you dial up a bunch of usable settings.

Output is massive!
