Custom Villex Soapbars!

Sign in to disble this ad
For sale is a one-of-a-kind pair of Villex soapbars that were taken from my Linc Luthier bass. These pickups are made in custom Macassar Ebony shells made by Linc. This was the second set I received--the first set was not well shielded and noisy. This set has copper foil internally, and is quieter. They are split coils, the bridge pickup is wound hotter.

The reason I had removed them was because I had a 3rd and final set made. This set was out of phase with my RMC piezos, and I had to have a phase inverter installed on the RMC buffer preamp. The set I currently have in the bass was reverse wound, and is in phase with the piezos, which allowed me to remove the phase inverter. The set I'm currently using is in maple shells. Linc lost the program he used to make these, so these are very special pickups. The maple shells that we used to make the final set were ones that he had made in the original batch and had left over. While the ebony probably looked better on my bass, that was not an option when designing the final set. So, my ebony pickups are now for sale.

The pickups are a custom shape designed by Linc. The neck pickup has "Linc Luthier" engraved in the wood, and the bridge pickup has a small "Villex" engraved. You cannot remove the shells, as the pickups are built into the wood and epoxied. Whoever gets these will have to live with the Linc Luthier engraved in the neck pickup. They are very full sounding pickups, and you can use the custom mid pot that is standard with Villex pickups. I believe I have one of those, and will include that.

The pickups are currently wrapped up neatly and I do not want to remove them from the packaging. See the pic below (the rainbow colored wires are from the RMC phase inverter, sold separately):

Here are some more pics of the pickups in my bass, and the shells. Note that some pics may be the first set, which looked slightly shinier. The set for sale is a little more satined, and was the best looking set IMHO.

Bass with new maple set, not the ones for sale, but same shape:

I'm asking $250 (shipped) or best offer for these one-of-a-kind pickups.

I'll trade for a new MXR Bass Envelope Filter + cash on your end. I can't think of anything else I need or want right now.

PM me your offers.

Wow. These are nice. What are the dimensions of the soapbars?

I'll measure them and get back to you. 19mm spacing.

I'll measure the maple shells so I don't have to unpack the ones for sale. They're the same shape and size.

Update on the dimensions:

1.5" x 4 1/16"

For reference, my bass has 19mm string spacing. Mid pot included, best offers considered.

How many strings on the bass these came from?
Would you know if you can run these through a preamp or must they remain passive?
Thanks

They're from a five string (see pics). Might fit a six with narrower spacing. You can go active or passive, and they come with the proprietary Villex passive mid control.
