Essex (SX) P-Bass 3-tone sunburst body - SOLD

Sign in to disble this ad
Here we have an alder 3-tone sunburst P-Bass body. It's a solid hunk of wood and I managed to get some great sounds out of it and it's pickup when I used play it. It comes with stock Essex hardware.

You'll notice a few things while perusing the pictures that follow. First, there's a big chip missing next to the neck pocket. That's from an experiment my roommate conducted on my basses (mentioned in another tread). Second, there are a lot of extra screw holes on the bass next to the bridge and around the pickups. Those are for the ashtrays and will be included if you want them. Third, you'll also notice that all the electronics are still in the body. However, they aren't working anymore - they just stopped working one day. I don't know why it happened and I don't know how. I've included some (very bad) pictures of the wiring and they all seem to be well soldered onto the pots. I am no expert though but I do think that someone decent with electronics could get this baby running again.

Anyway, price is $45 shipped. No trades.

Thanks.

Neck pocket is fine, standard P-Bass size (I assume - I've put 3 different P necks in there). The only problems in that area are the big dings which I've taken pictures of and mentioned in my initial post.

Also, from what I understand, the pickguard was handmade by an earlier owner and I guess he was a first-timer. There are also some irregularities in the PG around the pickup. It's the only PG I have for this body.

No, I haven't. And I unfortunately don't own a scale, so no real accurate way of measuring the weight.

What I can say is that when it was still attached to a neck and I was playing it, it was a little heavier than my ash bodied basses but not so heavy as make it difficult to play for long stretches.

I know, not very clear, concise or helpful but it's the best I can do at the moment.

Sorry.

If it's still available, I'll take it.

@Richard G:
I've never tried MIM fender necks in there, though I don't see why they wouldn't work. Does anyone know for sure?

@Dolflundgren:
The neck on the Ash Jazz listed in the other thread didn't deal with the cold very well and, in its first Michigan winter, would shift and tweak a little every day - to the point where it looked like someone had gaven it a half turn of the truss each time I looked at it. Now, I wasn't negligent; I tried a whole bunch of things. Different rooms in the house, in the bag, outside the bag, away from any window, humidifiers, etc. Nothing worked. Anyway, I just thought it was ironic that the bass, which was supposed to be the 'upgraded' SX, fared a lot worse than my other, cheaper SX basses.

The P Bass had a fretless neck and nothing is wrong with it. In fact, if the electronics were still working in that P, I wouldn't be selling the body. It just didn't feel right to sell the whole thing as a package, neck and all, with malfunctioning guts. Kinda like a body without a soul. Anyway, I'm still debating on whether I should post the fretless neck on here or not.
