Fender Custom Shop 60's Jazz Bass Pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
this a set of custom shop pickups from the 90's before they switched over to the current packaging artwork. for some reason, one of the previous owners decided to wrap electrical tape around the neck pickup coil. it has no affect on the tone and it the pickup reads out in range that it should. nothing was done to the bridge pickup. these usually sell for around 100 bucks used, but because of the issue, im listing these at 75 bucks shipped.

and heres a pic of the same pickup from the same era that i found on the web showing that the neck pickup on this set is still reading out to what it should be.

So your saying these pickups sound different now? interesting. I have a set that reads 7.4k neck, 7.8k bridge.

PS: the person might have tried shielding the pickup cover as a reason to cover up the pickup with tape. Shorted coils on shielded pickup covers mean no sound.

these definitely sound different than the set i bought new a couple of years ago. they were hotter and really sounded a lot closer to the fender original set. these are less aggressive in the high mids and more extended. when i had both of those sets, they sounded so similar i ended up selling the cs 60s here in the classifieds and kept the originals.

i remember a thread in the pickups forum where someone was concerned about their cs60's set because one of the pickups was reading out in high 6k range like this. they definitely changed the originals set as well. they used to be the original 62's and didnt have beveled pole pieces. i used to like that set a lot as well.

and the pickup cover isnt shielded so i think someone was just tinkering over the years. i know ive seen weirder stuff on gear ive bought used
