Whats the advantage of buying a vintage neck plate? It doesn't seem like it would have an effect on tone or aesthetics. Unless you just wanted an all vintage build I can't see the point.

That is the point, and it would be silly to suggest that the vintage integrity of a bass isn't worth a couple hundred dollars.

Just wondering how do you tell what the year is by the S/N? I have a 66 but I don't know if the plate is for a 66....t
