Here is an early 1970s Fender Precision Bass body. As you can see, it has a super nasty route in it. It was stripped and finished in natural in the early 90s. DiMarzio pickups and WD 4 ply pickgaurd. Generic import bridge.
The story:
I bought this bass complete in probably 1987. It had a fretless Precision neck on it and was spray painted orange. The nasty route was done before my time. I sold the body to a good friend a few years later. He stripped the orange paint and applied a clear poly finish, didn't do a bad job either. Since then it has gained a lot of wear and has a nice vibe to it. Some of the wires have come loose, so it will have to be rewired if you plan on using the existing configuration. Pots are not original and look pretty cheap. I would suggest changing it all out.
There are still traces of the original paint, with white on top, then black, then red, and then a clear sunburst type green or yellow. Hard to determine what the original color was.
