FS: EMG 45s six string PUPS and Preamp

Sign in to disble this ad
Check them out here:
http://www.bestbassgear.com/emg-pickups-45tw.htm

They sell for 120 each. Even though they're just a month old, I'll sell them for 125, the pair with preamp. Plus shipping.

Tom Clement had these in a brand new bass I bought from him a month ago. They weren't my sound. I had SF's big name luthier Gary Brawer remove and replace them. They're clean and easily dropped into the bass of your choice.

For more info, contact Tom Clement

I should have clarified: These are EMGTW45s

They came out of this bass:

Which preamp and how did you have it wired? I only see three knobs on the bass pics.

I'm trying to figure that out definitively, but from what I can tell, the pre-amp is built into the pickups. There are just three knobs. Two volume pots that pull out to shift between single and dual coil, and one tone knob. It does take a battery though.

Just to clarify this. The pickups have the active system built in. what is included are the push pull pots and the master tone pot. A simple system not the complex one shown on the EMG site. Tom

What is the output difference between single and dual coil? Is there a significant bump?

I have tested the MM5TW pickup, and there is a fairly significant difference in volume between dual-coil and "single-coil" (actually stacked-coil) mode. I would expect the same to hold true for the other "TW" models.

If I were going to install a "TW" pickup permanently, I would want the volume levels to be more consistent. I suggest putting in an extra pair of resistors, to bleed a bit of the dual-coil signal to ground in that setting. You'd need to experiment and find out which resistor values work best for this. I'll test this out and let you know.

In any case, these pickups are not bad at all. The dual-coil setting sounds very much like the "CS" series, while the stacked-coil setting has a nice (sweet) midrange. I'm not the biggest fan of the EMG sound, but these actually sound good to me.
