b. Solz Slab Shop - ’61 “J” Style Bass Guitar body
The vibe target for this bass was an early ‘60s J style. However, when I received the USACG body blank, the grain and the lightness of swamp ash led me to deviate from “period correctness” and to an aesthetically clean clear satin nitro cellulose finish. As with many of my other builds, this bass combines the best of vintage features with subtle modern touches that a gigging musician appreciates.
This was my only bass for a number of years. It has some wear that gives it a bit of character. There are the normal scratches from gigging plus some wear on the body on top of the pick guard near the neck and bridge pickups and buckle scratches on the back.. I tried to photograph those areas, but the scratches don’t show up very well. Not significant to most players, but I try to be complete in my descriptions. So, I’d say the aging is authentic and “earned” over the years.
The certified specifications are as follows:

I’ve been repairing guitars and stringed instrument for over 30 years. Over the past decade, I’ve been doing restorations and built a limited number of guitars for friends as the b Solz Slab Shop. I have an engineering background, an eye for detail and grew up playing, buying and selling of all of the vintage guitars that many of us love.
Typically, builds are first conceptualized aesthetically and tonally providing the motivation to achieve a new and unique result with each guitar. I’m only interested in making one-off guitars that are tonal and aesthetic art, no matter how long it takes. I do this because I love doing it and it keeps me sane. I'm not in the building business.
