These were found, along with about 2 dozen other tubes, in a foreclosure property in Cohoes, NY, Which an associate of mine recently purchased. The property was winterized and locked up sometime in 1972, and so far as we know we're the first people to have turned the lock since then. I also found $400 in 1920's era currency, and a bunch of other cool stuff.
These tubes were in the cardboard boxes when found, but were so dry they did not survive transport and literally crumbled to dust. All four of the 12AX7A's were tested "Good" by Lake Electronics in Albany, NY on two different machines. The fourth tube was temporarily housed in my SVT-7Pro, and had a delicious response... Slowly increasing the gain it gets a little "tubby" in the low end.... starts to compress a little just before it breaks up, and the transition into OD is smooth and predictable. When fully overdriven, it sounds scoopy and bright, without the "fizz" and unpleasant high end I got from the factory JJ. These 4, mated with a very quiet GT in V5 and a good 12AU7 for V4, will make your Ampeg SVP-Pro sing or your SVP-CL sound even more vintage.
PRICE DROP: all four tubes for $75 shipped OBO Trades Considered:
