Hey all,
I bought this '62 reissue Fender-inspired stack knob jazz bass control plate setup about a week ago. I wanted to replace the stock Fender stack knob control plate setup, which was slightly non-authentic compared to the "real" vintage pre-'62 fender jazzes:
1. This setup, like the original stack knob jazz's, has resistors in place to eliminate cross-talk between the tone controls. In other words, the neck tone and bridge tone controls act independently of each other (as i expected to be the case with the '62 RI jazz's, but it wasn't). The stock '62 RI jazzes omit the resistors and, thus, both tone controls effect the tone globally (the neck tone rolled off a bit sounds the same as the bridge pickup rolled off a bit, and vise versa). Stock from fender, it is like having two tone controls that do the same thing. Doesn't make much sense!
2. This setup, like the original stack knob jazz's, have 250K/250K concentric pots, instead of 250K/500K, as is the case with the stock '62 RI fender jazz's. The 250K value for the lower pot allows for a more vintage-accurate tone rolloff with .047 caps.
3. This setup has a relic'd/age'd look to it. Makes it look less new. More vintage IMO. It has a more dull/scratched patina to it compared to shiny chrome.
Edit: i should state the obvious: this setup is vol_neck/tone_neck, vol_bridge/tone_bridge, just like the 'standard' concentric stack knob jazz bass setup. Sorry for not making that more clear!
