FS: Custom made pair of Nordstrand Big Singles for 6 string bass. Brazilian Rosewood covers...These are the same size as Fodera/Seymour Duncan Dual Coils. Wonderful pickups.....I paid well over $600, so I'm asking $450 shipped. Thanks!

I was able to get a pair of older Fodera/Aero Bar-Mag Dual Coils....which is what I originally spec'd on the bass when I ordered it. However, the bass came from Fodera with Duncan Duals (The ones with single magnet) and I didn't care for them. I was then going to get Carey's Duals, but ended up going with the Big Singles. FF to last month, I got the chance to try what I originally wanted in the bass, it worked....so I'm keeping the Aero Duals. See my avatar
Thanks!

im curious, when you found out that you got the wrong pickups, did you try swapping them with fodera for what you really ordered? i went through the same thing and when i found out (7 years later!! ha) joey swapped me the aeros for the duncans i spec'd no problem.

You know...I never asked them. I'm sure Joey would have....but I was set on trying the Nordstrands after reading so much conflicting info regarding SD's vs. Aero's. I had waited over 3 years for the bass, and I didn't want anything else getting in the way! I eventually sold the SD's......then some time later the person who bought the SD's sold me the Aero's. Worked out fine in the end....

BTW, I knew immediately after I opened the case.....the Aero's have solid covers because they are the bar mag type.......and the SD's were exposed poles! I'm guessing they had a ready set of duals on hand and, in the rush to get my already delayed order out, thats what went in my bass....just a guess

are all the aero 6 string pickups using the sold bar polepiece? the 5 string aeros i had were the standard jazz polepiece dual coils.

You are correct, Aero Duals come in both traditional magnet poles and also the Bar magnet version. The regular poles can be covered solid or exposed....however, the bar mag pickups can only be covered solid, as the magnets are rectangles. Larry at Aero believes the bar mag type are preferable for 6 string....
