FS: Sadowsky Flatwounds - 5-string XL set

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a brand spankin' new 5-string XL set of Sadowsky flatwounds. According to the Sadowsky website these are meant for 35" scale basses with top-load bridges, but the B-string is too long to work for my bass.

I cut about 1.5" off the E-string before I realized that the B-string was too long. There is plenty of silk length left (in fact I almost ran out of tuner post), so don't worry about that.

I bought these for $45 shipped - they can be yours for $30 shipped, CONUS.

My response to a PM'd question about whether these would work in a Lakland 55-02:

"The E-string is the only one I cut, and there's plenty of silk winding left - you shouldn't have a problem there. I didn't wind the other strings on the bass. I should have checked the B-string first, but went for the E. Once I pulled the B out and saw it would be too long by laying it on the bass I stopped the process and took the E off.

I think you could still go through body on your 55-02with these strings. You might not have many windings with the E, but I think it would work. You'd definitely have to go through the body with the B-string, but it's tapered so through body would work just fine. At worst you'd go through body on the B, A, D, and G and through bridge with the E.

Have you ever used these strings before? They've been my favs for two years and I'm bummed that they don't work tonally on my current bass. I've been using them on ash and alder bodied basses and they sound great, but my bass now is mahogany and it's too deep of a sound - I've got to have a brighter string. The thing I like so much about the Sadowsky flats is that they still have complexity to the tone like rounds that I've found other flats lack."
